    In this paper we propose the usage of Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) in dense deployment scenarios where infrastructure access is not available or to reduce the traffic load from congested infrastructure networks for non-time critical applications. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and compare the performance of different DTN routing protocols in such scenarios where realistic mobility trace is used. The performance is analysed using the metrics of delivery probability, overhead ratio, average latency, average number of hops and average buffer time. The simulation results show that DTN is a good solution to improve the network performance by reducing the traffic load in infrastructure networks and epidemic protocol is the most suitable routing protocol for realistic dense deployment scenarios

    In this paper, we propose the use of the smart environment based on Internet of Things (IoT) and P2P technology as a form of assistive environment in autism care centers to support children develop communication and language skills. We are going to propose the use of the smart environment in Albanian Regional Center for Autism in Tirana, Albania. The smart environment is proposed as an assistive environment for this center in order to support students’ learning during the time that they come to the center for support. Our proposed system uses JXTA-Overlay platform and SmartBox device to monitor the children and create P2P communication between children, caregivers and therapists. Various visual systems, such as objects, photographs, realistic drawings, line drawings, and written words used with assorted modes of technology can support engaged learning and then can increase and maintain the concentration of children with ASD during learning

    Routing in a many-to-one communication scenario in a realistic VDTN

    In this paper, we evaluate and compare the performance of different routing protocols in a many-to-one communication within a Vehicular Delay Tolerant Network (VDTN). Seven groups with three stationary sensor nodes sense the temperature, humidity and wind speed and send these data to a stationary destination node that collect them for statistical and data analysis purposes. Vehicles moving in Tirana city roads in Albania during the opportunistic contacts will exchange the sensed data to destination node. The simulations are conducted with the Opportunistic Network Environment (ONE) simulator. For the simulations we considered two different scenarios where the distance of the source nodes from the destination is short and long. For both scenarios the effect of node density, ttl and node movement model is evaluated. The performance is analyzed using delivery probability, overhead ratio, average latency, average number of hops and average buffer time metrics. The simulation results show that the increase of node density increases the delivery probability for all protocols and both scenarios, and better results are achieved when shortest-path map-based movement model is used. The increase of ttl slightly affects the performance of all protocols. By increasing the distance between source nodes and destination node, delivery probability is decreased almost 10% for all protocols, the overhead for sprayandwait protocol does not change, but for other protocols is slightly increased and the average number of hops and average latency is increased.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

    QoS routing in ad-hoc networks using GA and multi-objective optimization

    Much work has been done on routing in Ad-hoc networks, but the proposed routing solutions only deal with the best effort data traffic. Connections with Quality of Service (QoS) requirements, such as voice channels with delay and bandwidth constraints, are not supported. The QoS routing has been receiving increasingly intensive attention, but searching for the shortest path with many metrics is an NP-complete problem. For this reason, approximated solutions and heuristic algorithms should be developed for multi-path constraints QoS routing. Also, the routing methods should be adaptive, flexible, and intelligent. In this paper, we use Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and multi-objective optimization for QoS routing in Ad-hoc Networks. In order to reduce the search space of GA, we implemented a search space reduction algorithm, which reduces the search space for GAMAN (GA-based routing algorithm for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks) to find a new route. We evaluate the performance of GAMAN by computer simulations and show that GAMAN has better behaviour than GLBR (Genetic Load Balancing Routing).Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Thus, it is important for each peer to have some number of neighbor peers. Moreover, it is more significant to discuss if each peer has reliable neighbor peers. In reality, each peer might be faulty or might send obsolete, even incorrect information to the other peers. We have implemented a P2P platform called JXTA-Orverlay, which defines a set of protocols that standardize how different devices may communicate and collaborate among them. JXTA-Overlay provides a set of basic functionalities, primitives, intended to be as complete as possible to satisfy the needs of most JXTA-based applications. In this paper, we present two fuzzy-based systems (called FPRS1 and FPRS2) to improve the reliability of JXTA-Overlay P2P platform. We make a comparison study between the fuzzy-based reliability systems. Comparing the complexity of FPRS1 and FPRS2, the FPRS2 is more complex than FPRS1.     Implementation of CAVENET and its usage for performance evaluation of AODV, OLSR and DYMO protocols in vehicular networks

    Vehicle Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a kind of Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) that establishes wireless connection between cars. In VANETs and MANETs, the topology of the network changes very often, therefore implementation of efficient routing protocols is very important problem. In MANETs, the Random Waypoint (RW) model is used as a simulation model for generating node mobility pattern. On the other hand, in VANETs, the mobility patterns of nodes is restricted along the roads, and is affected by the movement of neighbour nodes. In this paper, we present a simulation system for VANET called CAVENET (Cellular Automaton based VEhicular NETwork). In CAVENET, the mobility patterns of nodes are generated by an 1-dimensional cellular automata. We improved CAVENET and implemented some routing protocols. We investigated the performance of the implemented routing protocols by CAVENET.
